Hillcrest was constructed for long term care of acutely disturbed women in 1951. It was designed to hold 145 patients and was comprised of mainly open dormitories which allowed for easier supervision of the patients. This building also had hydrotherapy rooms on the second and third floors. A cafeteria and patient store were located on the first floor. After the hospital closed, the building was used by other state agencies including the state police. As of 2023 the building is still in very good condition, and it still looks very much as it did when it was built in the 1950s.
